Love… always trusts.
1 Corinthians 13:6-7
From the start of a relationship, and certainly throughout marriage, each of us faces a critical question on a daily basis: Do I trust my partner or not? We may not even be aware that the question is before us, but even so, the way we answer it has everything to do with the level of intimacy we ultimately achieve with our mate. Relationships dominated by fear and insecurity will never reach their potential, but marriages founded on trust and safety will flourish.
At one time or another, most of us have felt some anxiety about our spouse's commitment, whether from a genuine threat to the relationship or because of our own insecurities and imaginings. Even as Christians, we know that we can place unequivocal confidence in the Lord. But absolute, unquestioned trust in our spouse? That can be harder to bestow. The truth is, it must be earned over time—word by word, deed by deed.
